Road Trip - South Dakota

Our first real stop of the trip was South Dakota.  My good friend Katie lives in Rapid City so we thought this was the perfect time to go and visit her and her little girl Reese.  We stopped at Badlands National Park on our way into Rapid City.  We didn't really see any animals there but the landscape was pretty impressive.  They also had this little walk with some glass cases that had some fossils in them.  Drake thought that was pretty awesome.  And he got a prairie dog tattoo from the ranger so he was happy!

Next stop was Mt. Rushmore.  I have to say that it is pretty cool when you think about how they did that.  So I was impressed.  But it definitely isn't a all day thing, we just stayed there for about 30 minutes and then the kids were ready for our next stop.

Drake and Reese

Katie also took us to Sylvan Lake.  This was were they filmed some of the second movie of  The National Treasure.  It was really pretty but a little bit chilly so that was a bummer.

Chris being a goof ball.
Drake's turn!
On our way out of South Dakota we drove on the Needles Highway.  This was so pretty!  But the road was super curvy and Drake got a little car sick (poor guy!).

This is the awesome one car tunnel you have to drive through on the highway.
It was so fun to go out to South Dakota and to see Katie and Reese.  We sure miss them tons!  Hopefully we will get out there again sometime.  Now on to Colorado......
